This Isn’t Just a Log Home, It’s a Colorado Dream: Prepare for Spectacular Views and Design!

A handcrafted log home is a unique and beautiful house. The article shares the story of a beautiful log house in Colorado and its owner’s journey from conception to completion.

The Dream of a Log House

The owners have been taking their family to Colorado on skiing vacations for years. The owners decided that they would make the move permanent. After driving around Colorado for a while, they came across the perfect plot of 40 acres in Pitkin County.

In Florida, the dreams began to come true. Beth, an owner, was in line for groceries when she spotted the magazine. The magazine was just what the couple needed.

This is the planning stage

They were impressed by the log homes made by Montana Log Homes. This company is known for its use of lodgepole dead wood. The inner cambium layer is still visible in these skip-peeled wood logs, adding to their rustic charm.

Beth, her husband and their family visited Kalispell (Montana) to start planning the new log cabin. They modified the floor plan so that it met Pitkin County’s building codes.

The Perfect Space

Owners envisioned one large space, combining kitchen, living room and dining area. The owners designed a kitchen island with a matching fireplace and stone finish. This room was filled with high cathedral ceilings, walls, and a sense of grandeur.

Pitkin County has size restrictions. The sunroom was converted from the patio off the kitchen. It didn’t affect the total number of square feet.

All the Needs of the Family

The owners had teenage sons and wanted the bedrooms to be separated. Two bedrooms, two baths, a gaming room and laundry are located on the lower level. They are only for boys.

Bring the Dream to Reality

Gabe Butler, from Montana Log Homes of Colorado, was selected as the contractor. His work had impressed the owners when they saw it on the front cover of Log Home Magazine.

The exterior was to be similar to that of the log house featured, with a bay window three stories high and gingerbread shingles. The client also requested the use of the same hardware used on the hammerbeam beam trusses found in the grandroom.

They hired a custom steel fabricator to meet their requirements.

The final product

Handcrafted logs are a symbol of the dream and dedication of the family. The house is an elegant blend of rustic appeal and functionality nestled in the beauty of Colorado.

The log home’s exterior and interior are both stunning. It is easy to see why this unique type of dwelling has become so popular. It’s clear from the family’s story that you can build your dream home with careful planning and implementation.
